Overview

distretto ("the Extension") is a browser automation tool that uses AI to help you interact with web pages through natural language commands. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

Data Collection

What We Collect

API Key

  • Your OpenAI API key is stored locally in Chrome's secure storage
  • The key is never transmitted to any server other than OpenAI's API

Screenshots

  • When you give a command, distretto captures a screenshot of your current browser tab
  • Screenshots are sent directly to OpenAI's API for visual analysis
  • Screenshots are not stored permanently and are discarded after processing

Conversation History

  • Your chat messages and agent responses are stored locally in Chrome storage
  • This enables context-aware follow-up commands
  • History can be cleared at any time using the clear button

What We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect personal identification information
  • We do not track your browsing history
  • We do not use analytics or tracking services
  • We do not store data on external servers
  • We do not share any data with third parties (except OpenAI for processing)

Third-Party Services

OpenAI API

distretto uses OpenAI's API to process your commands. When you use the extension:

  1. A screenshot of your current tab is sent to OpenAI
  2. Your text command is sent to OpenAI
  3. OpenAI processes the request and returns instructions

OpenAI's data handling is governed by their own privacy policy: https://openai.com/privacy

Important: You are responsible for:

  • Providing your own OpenAI API key
  • Understanding OpenAI's terms of service and data policies
  • Any costs associated with API usage

Data Storage

All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API:

User Controls

You have full control over your data:

  • Clear Conversation: Click the clear button in the header to delete all chat history
  • Remove API Key: Go to Settings and delete your API key
  • Uninstall: Removing the extension deletes all locally stored data

Data Security

  • Your API key is stored in Chrome's secure local storage
  • All communication with OpenAI uses HTTPS encryption
  • No data is transmitted to any servers operated by distretto

The extension requires certain permissions to function:

scripting Execute click, type, and scroll actions
storage Save your API key and conversation locally
tabs Get information about the current page
sidePanel Display the chat interface
<all_urls> Allow automation on any website you visit

Children's Privacy

distretto is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above.
